There is a song called “What’s Wrong With Me?” on Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love in which the singer duets with her mope rock hero, Cure singer Robert Smith, with the two lamenting a love so strong is makes them sick. So, naturally, during a chat with KISS FM UK’s radio show earlier this week promoting the album, she was asked, “what is actually wrong with you?” “There’s quite a lot that’s wrong with me,” Rodrigo, 23, laughed. “I’m actually like, 60% deaf in my left ear. So, if you were to sit on this side of me [points to her left] and try to tell me a secret, I couldn’t make out what you were saying. So if you need to tell me a secret go right ear.” Asked what else is wrong with her, Rodrigo went with co-host Chloe Burrows’ vibe and said that she also thinks “lying is fun. My friends love to lie to strangers at parties, or like, lie to the Uber driver and be like, ‘Yeah, you know, I, like, go to college across the street and I’m like, blah, blah, blah,'” she said. This isn’t the first time Rodrigo has discussed her hearing loss. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Rodrigo described finding out about the issue during a hearing test in kindergarten when she was told, “‘Oh, you’re a little hard of hearing.'” She seems to have taken it in stride, though, telling the mag that her friend, photographer Petra Collins, has bad vision, “so we always joke that I make music because I have bad hearing and she takes photos because she has bad vision.” Rodrigo dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the second night of a two-night stand on Thursday (June 11) to perform the world premiere of the new album track “Stupid Song,” playing the moody ballad on the piano before being joined by a full band for the urgent tune’s up-tempo second half. The singer is gearing up to launch the 65-date Unraveled Tour , which will hit arenas for multiple night stands in North America, Europe and the U.K. this fall and winter, kicking off on Sept. 25 show at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Conn.
