CBS A writer on Matlock is suing the network. John Lowe sued CBS on Wednesday (June 17) for alleged sexist and racist comments towards him and other Black cast and crew members. The lawsuit, seeking unspecified damages, was filed in California, and claims that the showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and executive producers Nicki Renna and Jeffrey Lieber created a toxic work environment, including “sexually explicit and discriminatory conduct.” He claims there was also failure to prevent the harassment. John , who worked as an executive story editor on the show since 2023, claims he got fired after reporting his supervisor had referred to Juneteenth as “Coonteenth,” and also alleges that the execs made comments about his genitalia involving racist stereotypes. “There is no excuse for this blatant racism and harassment. CBS should be ashamed for allowing it, and the Matlock showrunner and producers should be held accountable,” his lawyer Ron Zambrano said in a statement, via TheWrap. “ Mr. Lowe was subjected to degrading and unlawful conduct. He deserved to be treated with dignity and respect, as everyone should expect in the workplace, not subjected to these outrageous and illegal racial slurs and sexual harassment without any connection to his work on the show.” CBS issued their own statement in response: “We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for everyone and take all workplace complaints seriously. In this instance, a thorough investigation was completed, and we were unable to find support for his allegations. We look forward to vigorously defending this lawsuit.” Fans of the CBS hit series were upset to learn that the show had been pushed to the midseason for the third season.
