Ollie Upton/HBO Rhaenyra and Alicent have a ton of history between them…but things just got taken to a whole new level in the latest episode of House of the Dragon . Season 3, Episode 2 just aired on Sunday night (June 28) on HBO and HBO Max. The final moments of the episode saw Emma D’Arcy ‘s Rhaenyra and Matt Smith ‘s Daemon overtaking King’s Landing. They aimed to kill Aegon ( Tom Glynn-Carney ) in order to give Rhaenyra her rightful place on the Iron Throne. However, he was nowhere to be found, as they do not know he is on the run. Daemon finds another option in the dungeons – Alicent’s dad Otto Hightower ( Rhys Ifans ). Rhaenyra beheads him while sobbing, and claims the throne. In that moment, Alicent ( Olivia Cooke ) is brought in by guards as she’s been caught trying to escape. As Rhaenyra is sitting on the Iron Throne in her first official moments as Queen, Alicent sees her father’s head on the ground, and locks eyes with her once-best friend. About the moment that Rhaenyra and Alicent lock eyes after the killing of Otto, Emma told The Wrap , “I wanted her to be sort of uncomfortably revealed, actually, I think that’s probably what Alicent’s gaze does. She sees through any of the any artifice or armor that Rhaenyra might have built up.” Olivia added of the moment: “I think she feels incredibly betrayed, and like she was caught up in yet another person’s scheming … it feels like it was all for nothing, and she’s in a worse position than where she started. I don’t know … how that relationship can move on from that, at that point … it’s a huge betrayal.” Olivia , meanwhile, said there is “carnage” up next. “No one’s having a good time, basically, but there’s fantastic new characters and different dynamics with original characters that that we see for the first time. It’s huge this season,” she shared.
