A number of recent label realignments led to a shift in the market share landscape for the third quarter.

As the record industry continues to reshape itself through a bevy of layoffs and reorganizations at some of its biggest companies, so too has the U.S. recorded music market share landscape shifted repeatedly in the past year. After the third quarter of 2026, that has meant officially shifting Universal Music Group’s divisions into two label groups: REPUBLIC Collective, which includes Island, Mercury and Big Loud, and now Def Jam and MCA; and Interscope Capitol, which includes Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA) and Capitol Music Group (CMG), as well as Capitol Christian, Astralwerks and Blue Note. We’ve also seen the further consolidation of Atlantic Music Group (AMG), which moving forward will include indie distributor ADA and its 0.52% market share under 10K Projects’ number, and thus Atlantic’s. (In this report, ADA remains separate but will fall under AMG in the future after the division was moved under AMG CEO Elliot Grainge ’s purview last month.) UMG now has a 35.23% current market share, down a bit from the 35.96% it held three quarters of the way through 2025 but up considerably from its Q1 (30.76%) and Q2 (32.44%) marks . Within UMG, REPUBLIC commands its usual industry-leading mark, reaching a 14.05% current share through the first nine months of the year, roughly comparable with the same time last year (when Def Jam and MCA were separate) and representing quarter-on-quarter increases, from a 9.98% share in Q1 and 11.43% at midyear, now that those labels are officially in the fold. Under REPUBLIC’s purview, Island (2.15%), Big Loud (2.00%) and Mercury (1.39%) continue to shine, with the latter riding high on Noah Kahan ’s huge The Great Divide , the No. 3 album of the year so far, and Morgan Wallen , who is co-released with Big Loud. Interscope Capitol, meanwhile, consolidated its hold on the second spot, posting a 13.46% current share. Within that, IGA accounted for 8.71% and CMG for 4.74%, with the former down year over year and the latter ticking up over the first nine months of 2025. Interscope Capitol is also down year over year from what it would have combined for in 2025, though it has also grown across each quarter of this year as parent company UMG returns to growth itself. Due to all the changes at the UMG over the past 12 months, year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter comparisons for individual labels are more difficult than usual.
