Getty Madonna is making Confessions II a family affair. Ahead of the release of her highly anticipated studio album on Friday (July 3), the 67-year-old Queen of Pop shared a snippet of her new song “The Test” on Monday (June 29), co-written by and featuring her 29-year-old daughter Lola Leon . The track was co-produced by Stuart Price , Madonna and Arca . “The song I wrote with my daughter, Lola . She approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship. It was a really important moment, and it solidified the idea that now is the time to make this record,” Madonna recently explained in a conversation for Interview Magazine . “She approached me. She’s been very reticent to work with me. She doesn’t want to be perceived as my daughter taking advantage of her privilege. She’s been very stand-offish, working at her own pace, and I respect that deeply. But then one day she came to me and she said, ‘You know what? I’m holding on to something and maybe it’s a kind of… I don’t want to say anger… maybe resentment? Because at the end of the day she didn’t ask for this [life]. She had been through her adolescence struggling with those feelings for a long time. Then she came to me and she said, ‘Let’s write a song together, I think it’ll be a very healing experience. I was like, ‘OK, you’re on. Let’s do it,'” she later explained in an interview with Graham Norton .
