Diana Ross will head to Australia next year for her first concert in these parts in more than two decades. The Queen of Motown will headline the Sydney Summertime concert series on Friday, March 5, for an exclusive, one-night-only concert, presented on the eve of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. The superstar singer will bring Diana Ross Freedom in Motion to Centennial Park for the one-off spot, reads a statement from Black Peach Touring, the concerts promoter launched last year by Jessica Ducrou, co-founder and former CEO of Secret Sounds Group. “Diana Ross is an absolute icon and to have her choose Sydney Summertime for her only Australian show, one night only in Centennial Park, on the eve of Mardi Gras is exactly the kind of unforgettable moment we created this series for,” comment Ducrou and Elise Huntley, co-founders and directors of Black Peach, in a statement. “It’s going to be something very special.” Ross is the third international headliner confirmed for Sydney Summertime’s inaugural 2027 season, following The Strokes and Kings of Leon. Joining the legendary U.S. artist on stage will be British electronic duo Groove Armada for a DJ set, with additional performers to be announced shortly. The all-ages concert series is supported by Destination NSW, the lead agency for the visitor economy in the NSW government. Ross, who boasts a string of hits as leader of the Supremes and as a solo artist, is “one of the most iconic performers in music history, with a career spanning decades and a catalogue of hits loved by generations of fans,” comments New South Wales minister for jobs and tourism Steve Kamper. “To have an international superstar of her caliber headline at Sydney Summertime for an Australian-exclusive performance is a major coup for NSW,” adds Kamper. “Events like this are a powerful driver of tourism. They bring more visitors to our state, generating economic benefits for local businesses and jobs, and reinforce NSW’s reputation as a destination for world-class live music and entertainment.” The dynamic diva last performed in Australia back in November 2006 for concerts in Melbourne (Regent Theatre and Flemington Racecourse) and Sydney (Capitol Theatre). Presales for her Sydney Summertime concert open at 9am local time next Monday, Nov. 9. Visit blackpeach.co/dianaross for more. View this post on Instagram
