Getty Slayyyter got really sick from an oyster and is sharing about the ordeal in an interview with PinkPantheress as part of Coachella ‘s Artists on Artists YouTube series, out now. The 29-year-old Worst Girl in America star spoke about an experience a few years ago, revealing she “almost died” from an oyster. “I almost died from an oyster, and I feel like something really stupid is going to like take me out,” Slayyyter began, as she told the story. “I think like two years ago…it was crazy. I did my first vacation for myself, ’cause I’d been touring for a long time and I had a tour or I had a show in like Germany. We’re like, let’s go to Italy for a couple days before this show and treat ourselves and it’ll be fun. We went to Santa Margherita…and on the very last day of vacation, I was like walking around. I was like, ‘No, I don’t feel so good,'” she explained. I actually thought I was going to die. “And I was like feeling really crazy….it was really actually insane. I had like a seizure. I had to go to the hospital…I went paralyzed from like the waist down. I was like throwing up. I was in an ambulance. I actually thought I was going to die. I was on FaceTime with my manager and I was like…’Help me…something’s wrong,'” Slayyyter explained. “He put me in touch with a friend of his that’s a doctor. And he’s like, ‘Have you had any oysters lately?’ And I was like yeah.’ And it was Vibrio. It’s a bacteria…and it’s like odorless. It tasted like a great oyster. It wasn’t like a bad oyster…there’s like a 60% mortality rate,” she continued. “I’m like Missouri cornfed…that s–t’s not taking me out. There’s absolutely no way.” “Well, now I I’m never having an oyster again,” PinkPantheress said. Here’s what the CDC says about eating oysters… “Vibrio naturally live in certain coastal waters. Because oysters feed by filtering water, Vibrio can concentrate inside oysters their tissues. If you eat raw or undercooked oysters, Vibrio and other germs that might be in the oysters can make you sick. Most Vibrio infections from oysters result in only diarrhea and vomiting. But some infections from oysters, such as those caused by Vibrio vulnificus, can be severe. Many people with Vibrio vulnificus infection can get seriously ill and need intensive care or limb amputation. About 1 in 5 people with this infection die, sometimes within a day or two of becoming ill.” – CDC Watch them discuss above.
