Universal Pictures The first reactions to Christopher Nolan ‘s highly anticipated new movie The Odyssey are rolling in! The film, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, has started screening for members of the press ahead of its July 17 theatrical release, and the early response is looking very strong. According to reaction roundups from Variety , The Hollywood Reporter , Deadline , and others, critics are praising the movie’s scale, IMAX presentation, performances, and craft work, with several calling it one of Nolan ‘s biggest swings yet. Variety’s Jazz Tangcay called the movie “a work of art,” praising Nolan ‘s handling of the Homer story, as well as the cinematography, costumes, sound, editing, and Ludwig Goransson ‘s score. Christopher Nolan is a visionary, and #TheOdyssey is a work of art. Adapting a Homer classic is not easy, but he has done an incredible job of bringing this to the big screen and telling Odysseus’s journey. He has outdone himself.
