Dolly Parton ‘s Dolly: A True Original Musical is headed to Broadway this winter, and the country icon announced the news herself in a video shared on her social media accounts on Tuesday (July 7). “I have some big news that I’m so excited to share. I can officially announce that Dolly: A True Original Musical is coming to Broadway, and you’re invited! Just like the title says, I mean true in every sense of the word,” the star teased. “Now this isn’t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside. It’s about where I really come from: what I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved and how I found my way and told it in my own words and through the music that’s been part of me through every step of the journey.” But that’s not all! The country icon continued: “Now the musical has some of my big hits plus a lot of brand new songs that I’ve written just for the show. This really is a dream come true! And the Broadway performances start in New York City later this year, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you.” The musical, which takes viewers through Parton’s life and career journey — from East Tennessee to building a multifaceted career in entertainment and business — will open preview performances on Monday, Dec. 7, while the show’s opening night is set for Parton’s 81st birthday on Jan. 19, 2027, at New York’s St. James Theatre at 246 West 44th Street. Dolly: A True Original Musical ‘s book was written by Parton and two-time Emmy winner Maria S. Schlatter, while the musical is directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher. The musical — which will feature her hits including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5” — is produced by Parton, Danny Nozell, Adam Speers for ATG Production and Gavin Kalin Productions, while 101 Productions, Ltd. serves as general manager for the musical. Dolly: A True Original Musical saw its world premiere last summer at Nashville’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Belmont University. “During our world premiere in Nashville, I was overwhelmed by the deep connection audiences have with Dolly. You mention her name and people light up and share a time that she has inspired them and brought them joy,” Sher said in a statement. “But despite all of that genuine love, Dolly has never really shared her story before. She’s offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words. As we prepare to come to Broadway, we’re thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story.” Speers added, “After everything we learned during our world-premiere in Nashville, we’re shaping the show and deepening the storytelling so that the Broadway production fully captures the spirit of this amazing woman. To be opening the show on Dolly’s 81st birthday is not only a celebration of a milest
