Getty Lindsey Graham ‘s preliminary cause of death has been released. The South Carolina Republican senator died suddenly at the age of 71 early on Sunday (July 12), and his Communications Director Taylor Reidy shared an update later in the day. “The following information is from the Medical Examiner of the District of Columbia’s preliminary findings regarding Senator Graham ’s death,” the statement began. “The preliminary examination findings were: Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease.” “The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death.” According to the Washington Post , citing eyewitness accounts and police scanner audio, emergency crews responded to Graham ‘s Washington, D.C., home shortly after 8:30 p.m. for reports of chest pain. Responders performed CPR after Graham went into cardiac arrest before transporting him to George Washington University Hospital. Find out more.
