Rusko Announces Indefinite Hiatus From Music & Touring: ‘It Became Clear I Was Having a Breakdown Mentally’

Veteran UK dubstep producer Rusko has announced an indefinite hiatus from music and touring. In a statement posted to the producer’s social media on July 17, the artist writes, “When I first decided to call it a day on music and shows I really wasn’t sure how, or even if, I wanted to share it more publicly. The truth is, I simply couldn’t have found the words. I had simply been ignoring my brain and body for far too long, I finally hit a serious breakdown point.” Rusko continues that “it became clear I was having a breakdown mentally… and so needed to dip out the game for the foreseeable future…To the fans, I am sorry about the upcoming shows but I want you to know that your support over the years has meant everything to me. For now, I have to follow my instincts for healing and recovery. While I can’t guarantee any kind of return, I hope in my heart one day this is not goodbye, but more ‘see ya later, alligator.'” Read the complete statement below. The comments section of the post includes messages from a barrage of bass producers including Ravenscoon, who writes, “You’re one of the all time greats and an inspiration to so many of us.” Levity writes: “Without you, there wouldn’t be any of us making or listening to this music we all love so much.” And LSDream adds: “Thank you for ur legendary pioneering and massive contributions to the culture…May you find and receive the healing u need, and the space to rest and restore.” A pillar of the U.K. dubstep scene, Rusko previously went on hiatus in 2017 when he was undergoing treatment for stomach cancer. Later that year, he announced that treatment had been successful and that he was cancer-free. Both of his solo studio albums, 2010’s O.M.G.! and 2012’s Songs , graced the Top Dance Albums chart, reaching No. 12 and No. 10, respectively.
