Getty Role Model is opening up about his life and career. The 29-year-old singer-songwriter posted for the cover of NYLON Guys , out now. During the discussion, Role Model (born Tucker Pillsbury ) spoke about his upcoming album Chuck Timely & the Hourglass , the viral success of “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” Dakota Johnson appearing on his record, and much more. Check out the highlights from the Role Model interview… On seeing a therapist for the first time: “It’s going well. I don’t know if once a week is enough for me…I feel like since I’ve got 30 years of s–t I’ve got to start dealing with, I need more therapy.” On his third studio album, Chuck Timely & the Hourglass : “Making the album and writing all those songs — I think me going to therapy now is a result of that. There’s a lot of self-discovery through mindlessly dating or intentionally dating…You start to question if maybe you’re the problem…” On not feeling pressure to replicate the viral success of “Sally”: “I think it’s because I love ‘Sally,’ and I’ll be performing that till I’m in a wheelchair, but lyrically, that song could have been written by a 5-year-old, especially the bridge, which is the most famous part. Those are some of my worst lyrics. So I didn’t feel pressure because, to me, the bar was really low.” On settling on his stage name: “I think Role Model is the dumbest stage name, but I’m in too deep.” On navigating where to draw the line between his public and private personas: “Keeping things about music is what I’ve learned. Otherwise, the internet just has a field day…Everyone’s a detective.” On Dakota Johnson’s cameo on the album: “I had a lot of names to pick from for that, and then Dakota came to the studio one day, and Mason [ Stoops , guitarist and producer] was like, ‘Why don’t you do it?’…She was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and stood right up and got in the booth and knocked it out better than we could have imagined.” On not attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding: “I couldn’t go…I was busy in the middle of an album rollout, but it looked amazing.” On couch-surfing with friends and staying in Airbnbs while finding his footing in LA: “I think everyone should go through that, but that was rough…I remember texting my sister for $5 so that I could get a McDonald’s breakfast for the day, saving half of it for dinner.” On co-starring in Lena Dunham’s upcoming rom-com opposite Natalie Portman: “I had to do a chemistry read with her, and I was f–king terrified…But as soon as I got there, somehow the nerves went away, and I did a good enough job to get the part.” On the lifestyle shift that comes with fame: “…the part that I struggle with is you sometimes are in environments or around people of this certain level of status that make me feel very separate from the rest of the people in my life and where I’m from…I joke a lot on the internet about wanting a G-Wagon, and the Birkin thing that went on for like two ye
