Sheryl Crow to Receive BMI’s Troubadour Award

BMI will recognize Sheryl Crow with its Troubadour Award on Sept. 14. The accolade “recognizes a songwriter who has made a profound impact within the American music landscape and whose work continues to set the pace for generations to follow,” according to BMI. The private event, hosted at BMI’s Nashville office, will feature performances and tributes highlighting Crow’s career. Past Troubadour recipients include John Fogerty , Billy F Gibbons , John Hiatt , Robert Earl Keen , John Oates , John Prine and Lucinda Williams . BMI is proud to recognize the mark she has made on American music and her songs that have become part of our lives.” Crow is a 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee (on her first nomination) and a nine-time Grammy winner. Her 32 Grammy nominations include three in songwriting categories: song of the year for her breakthrough smash “All I Wanna Do,” best song written for visual media for “Tomorrow Never Dies” from the film of the same name and best American roots song for “Forever.” From 1996 to 2005, she amassed seven No. 1 hits on Billboard ’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, which remains a record for the most by a female artist. She topped the chart with “If It Makes You Happy,” “A Change Would Do You Good,” “Anything But Down,” “My Favorite Mistake,” “Soak Up the Sun,” “The First Cut Is the Deepest” and “Good Is Good.” Crow, who affiliated with BMI in 1991, received the 1997 BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year award. She has received 12 BMI Awards for songs such as “All I Wanna Do,” “Strong Enough,” “Soak Up the Sun” and “Picture.” Additionally, Crow has been honored with eight BMI Million-Air awards for fan favorites “Everyday Is a Winding Road,” “A Change Would Do You Good” and “My Favorite Mistake.”
