A Weezer movie is definitely coming next year. At least according to rhythm guitarist Brian Bell. Speaking to ALT 98.7 on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of the new Green Day-inspired Nimrods movie earlier this week, Bell was asked when the previously teased Weezer film was coming out, saying, “We already have [filmed a movie]. Although I’m not supposed to talk about it, but, yes, it’s in the can and it’s gonna be incredible. We’ll see it in 2027.” Back in spring 2025, Weezer singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo used the band’s last-minute Coachella booking to reveal that his band was working on their debut feature film . Just before rolling out their 1994 classic “Undone — The Sweater Song,” Cuomo told the crowd, “We’ve been busy making the Weezer movie back in LA the last couple weeks. But when Coachella called us up, said, ‘Hey Weezer, could you guys make it out for a surprise appearance?,’ we’re like, ‘Heck yeah!’ It feels so good to be here with you guys and let out these emotions.” While a spokesperson for the veteran group had not returned Billboard ‘s request for comment at press time about the plot or release date for the film, members of the Weezer fan club reportedly shared information they’d received around the time of the Coachella gig alerting them that the band would be “doing a private filmed merchandise signing for a select few fans, for a TBA video,” adding that “selected participants will need to sign a release and NDA prior to arriving.” The shoot date for the video was listed as April 21 of last year. In addition, on X, fans shared a photo of a “ Notice of Filming ” in Los Angeles for a scripted feature film with a listed title of Weezer: Security Threat , with the production company listed as Watch Me Unravel LLC, a nod to the lyrics from “The Sweater Song.” The notice alerted those planning to attend that the three-day shoot (April 7-9) would include “simulated bullet effects” and “atmospheric smoke.” The motion picture would not be Cuomo’s first attempt at breaking into Hollywood. Back in 2015, the singer was working on a potential Fox series about a rock star who abandons the spotlight to get a degree in college. The plot line was similar to Cuomo’s own decision to intermittently take classes at Harvard University over more than a decade; he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature in 2006. The series was canned, however, after the pilot was filmed, after which Fox abandoned the project tentatively titled DeTour . At the time, Cuomo told Vulture , “ DeTour did not get picked up. So that whole chapter is closed. It’s weird. In music if you make an album and your label decides not to put it out, you can bring it to another label and sometimes it can be a big success. At least it gets out. In TV, I’ve learned, it’s not like that. The pilot was made, completely fi
