The 39-year-old World No. 4 tennis player lost to World No. 30 ranked Brazilian teen Joao Fonseca , 19, on Friday (May 29) during the Men’s Singles third round match on Day Six of the 2026 French Open at Roland Garros in Paris, France. He lost 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5. The elimination follows Jannik Sinner ‘s surprising loss. The 24-year-old player, ranked No. 1 in the world, lost to Juan Manuel Cerundolo on Day 5 of the 2026 French Open on Thursday (May 28). There are no men’s Grand Slam winners left in the draw. “I just enjoyed being on court and what a pleasure it was. It’s my first stepping on court against him. I was just trying to hit the ball as fast I could. Djokovic don’t miss, we still think he’s 20. At the end of the match I think he was more fit than me, that’s crazy,” Joao said, via ESPN.
