Dolly Parton returns to the top 10 on Billboard ’s Hot Country Songs chart (dated Sept. 5) as “Jolene” and “9 to 5” reenter at Nos. 7 and 8, respectively. Four more Parton titles return at Nos. 11, 12, 14 and 21, respectively: “Islands in the Stream” with Kenny Rogers (1983), “I Will Always Love You” (1974), “Here You Come Again” (1977) and “Coat of Many Colors” (1971). All six songs except for “Coat of Many Colors,” a No. 4 hit, reached the top in their initial releases. Meanwhile, Parton’s span in the Hot Country Songs top 10 expands, by more than 20 years, to 58 years and seven months since she first ranked in the region with “The Last Thing on My Mind,” with Porter Wagoner, in February 1968. Until this week, she was last in the top 10 in April 2006, as featured on Brad Paisley’s “When I Get Where I’m Going,” which became her 25th No. 1, the most among women. Parton’s chart resurgence reflects the remarkable outpouring of love and listening following her passing, as fans have turned to her nearly 60-year musical catalog. On Aug. 25, her songs drew 26.3 million official U.S. on-demand streams, up 2,056% from the previous Tuesday, making her the second-most-streamed artist that day. On Aug. 26, she was the most streamed act , at 54.3 million. Radio has likewise propelled plays for Parton, with iHeartRadio, among others, responding with an expanded tribute. The digital platform launched a “Remembering Dolly Parton” playlist and shifted its Dollywood, Women of iHeartCountry, iHeartCountry 70s and iHeartCountry 80s offerings to all-Parton formats. The response has likewise powered Parton’s return to the Billboard Hot 100 , where “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” place at Nos. 16 and 27, respectively, as both recordings make their first appearances in the top 40.
