Getty Images Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences carefully selects names as their honorary Oscars recipients. A total of four recipients can be chosen to receive the yearly honor, which is given out at the Governors Awards. Last year, for example, the Academy chose Debbie Allen , Tom Cruise and Wynn Thomas .
