BLACKPINK ‘s members have stayed private about their love lives for as long as they’ve been making music, and in her new documentary, LISA explained why. Related LISA Documentary About Her ‘Transformative Year Away From BLACKPINK’ Is Coming to Theaters Documentary about BLACKPINK’s LISA, ‘Always Lalisa,’ to World Premiere at 2026 Toronto International Film Festival A Complete List of BLACKPINK’s Solo Projects (So Far) At one point in Always Lalisa — which is set to premiere soon at the Toronto International Film Festival — the Thai performer opened up about the restrictions K-pop culture places on idols when it comes to romance. “In K-pop culture, we can’t date,” she said, according to a report by Toronto Star published Thursday (Sept. 3). “If you’re seeing someone and you get caught by paparazzi, your popularity drops.” “When I was younger, I had a few relationships, but we had to hide when we’re dating,” she continued. “I didn’t want my dating to be the thing that hurts BLACKPINK’s popularity.” She also revealed in the film that her song “Dream,” which appears on her Billboard 200 top 10 solo album Alter Ego , is about one of her past secret relationships. LISA added that she got that person’s blessing before releasing the song, so long as fans wouldn’t be able to uncover who’d inspired it. “They thought they figured it out, but I don’t think so,” LISA said. The Sue Kim-directed documentary will screen on Sept. 11 at TIFF, after which it’ll hit theaters in October and later stream exclusively on YouTube Premium. According to a description, it follows the White Lotus actress’ “transformative year away from BLACKPINK” as “forging her own path, particularly in the Western music market, brings new pressures, relentless scrutiny and the challenge of redefining herself on her own terms.” LISA is now gearing up to release her first set of solo songs since Alter Ego , with EP Press Play set to drop on Oct. 23. Its first single, “SaWaDiKa,” arrived Friday (Sept. 4).
